In Belize, we were privileged enough to see this growing wild in multiple places. On our first day, we were lucky enough to accidentally find it on the very top of a not-fully excavated temple ruin at Xunantunich, though it was not entirely open. We also found it on the road to Gumbo Limbo Resort, and very close to P. mayarum and P. cobanensis on the road to El Pilar.
It is related closely to P. sexocellata and P. coriacea, and is half of the well known and gorgeous hybrid P. ‘Manta’.
